Rolled in around 11a on a Friday, coming from the southwest in a 182RG. Had LA center flight following over to TRACON. After check-in, they immediately asked if we knew the area. Told them it was our first time in. They offered vectors, were really nice, and set us up perfectly on the left downwind for 17. Handover to tower, and we were cleared right away for 17R. As soon as we were on the ground they asked if we knew the airport, no we didn't. They gave us progressive taxi the whole way. Henderson exec FBO van was there offering a ride. Great experience.

Landing at KHND on the north runways, ATC gave us the Nintendo 1 arrival for our jet coming in from the east. Tower then asked for a straight-in approach and to report three mile final. Get configured and slow down early! It’s a pretty steep approach if you don’t want to run into the rising terrain.

Came in from KSNA in the Saratoga II HP, tracking along I-15 at 4500' and got vectored in a way I wasn't expecting -- first southbound, then eastbound, right into the hills south of the airport. Got handed off to tower and told to do a straight in for 35R. The altitude they had me at made that impossible because of terrain, but while I was working around a few peaks, tower rudely said, "where are you going?" I was probably about 3/4 mile west of the extended centerline before I got corrected back. Freq congested. 30,000+ hr 777 Capt treated like garbage.
