Bois Blanc Island (6Y1)

Great little airport. We spent one night camping there with the kids. Like others have said, keep watching for deers by the runway. They mostly seem to remain in the grass. The airport manager told me bikes can be rented from a local resident, and they’ll bring them right out to the airport.

Fine quiet airport to camp at. FBO seems to stay locked. There is an outhouse type bathroom near the campsite. No showers. No courtesy car. Lots of deer around the runway but they seem to stay in the grass for the most part. We brought one wheels to make the 3-4 mile ride into town. All the roads are dirt/sand and get messy when it rains. Runway is in good shape. Will come back again!

Good airplane camping experience. Has a fire pit, picnic table, tie downs, shade. Fine as a home base while checking out other islands (Mackinac, Beaver, Fox, Drummond) in the area. Airport Manager’s phone was disconnected the 4-5 times I tried to reach him prior to coming in. Did get ahold of fire station to get “permit” to have a fire. And got ahold of township for FBO access code, which apparently is the same one they use across Michigan aviation facilities. Will return!
