September 15, 2024Wife secured us a couple evenings in the TWA Hotel for my birthday. Flew in in a Cessna 340. Good experience! Ensure you do your research beforehand. They might ask you "what is your speed on final today" I told them 170 until 5 mile final and they seemed fine with that. Be sharp in the air and have a notion of your taxi path when you touch down and you will be okay. TWA hotel is very neat!

September 29, 2022Flew here from KMMU VFR in a C172 to pick up my spouse after she was rerouted from EWR to JFK. Thought it would be an enjoyable reason to fly into a busy class B. Despite my best attempts to plan ahead, ATC insisted I pick up a bravo clearance in the air. no issue with KEWR but the coordination ceased once over the Hudson. Finally got a word in with KJFK approach and after confirming a few times that I was full stop at KJFK they advised to stay clear of the bravo which meant flying over the Atlantic around 500ft until they could sequence me in with about 20 jets. Caution wake turbulence indeed! No shade thrown at the controllers….These people are on…their…game! IFR would have yielded more predictable results but also would have had me up in CT for sequencing. Landed 22L and stopped well short of the first high speed taxiway (ha!). 15 minute taxi to FBO where I was greeted by a few jumbos along the way. All in, some fine views and an enjoyable story. Be on your game if you plan to fly here.
