Runway has been damaged while in use as helicopter base during the Madre and Gifford wildfires. Asphalt shows rutting and shoving caused by heavy loads during excessively hot conditions - showing as waves and grooves intermittently dispersed in the center of the runway. Repairs anticipated before the conclusion of 2025.

Runway is in good condition, taxiway and ramp a little rocky, but manageable. Simple walk to Buckhorn resort which includes a bar, eatery and cafe. Pilots are encouraged to fly in and to sign the log book at the cafe cashier. The plane traffic helps to justify the upkeep of the airport.
