Hawthorne Industrial (KHTH)

Great little desert airport! I crossed the Sierra from the SJ Valley to HTH to check out the Ordnance Museum (one of the best collection of that subject matter Ive ever seen). Hawthorne has a major Ordnance history tied to the Navy, Army, and Marine Corps. Volunteer Tony met me at the plane. He was born and raised in Hawthorne, and shared some museum tips while helping get the fueling gear ready. Airport is safe. Town is just outside the gate. Enjoy!

What a good airport! This is now my preferred place to fuel up after flying over the Sierras. Betty one of the two volunteers has always been there to assist me fuel and get me set up with a courtesy car for the night. "Hawthornes Best" hotel was superb and highly suggested. You can walk to the hotel in 15 minutes if you want exercise. A safeway is right across the street from the fuel pump for a lunch break. Pilots lounge is open 24/7 and very cozy.

Stop right here and savor the experience! Simple self-serve fueling with fair costs. Very noticeable and inviting runway, plenty of parking. And the genuine gems are the airport volunteers - Betty and Tony. Tony arrived in the golf cart to assist me fuel, then straight home to his garage to locate an extension cord so I could connect my Tanis heater for the approaching chilly evening. No problems taking a crew car overnight. Stay at the Travelodge and dine across the street at El Capitan. Wonderful small-town GA hospitality!
