Manager Ivan Veneer is superb! We had a group of 27 pilots in 13 planes from Colorado on a June 2025 weekend trip there. Ivan was a miracle worker in doing everything we requested and offering to assist us in any further manner he could. Good airport and interesting small town with many sights to observe and activities. Hot Springs is a hidden jewel yet to be found. It sits in a valley surrounded by wooded hills with many stone outcroppings. Highly suggested! Good food, and numerous eateries.

Rick goes above and beyond to take care of visitors. Sorted out a courtesy car mix up (all my fault) with texts and phone calls on Labor Day Weekend. 3 clicks on Unicom for weather. Grass runway is a superb alternative if there is a stiff xwind for 01/19. I always plan a stop here when traveling thru the area.

We wanted to visit the BlackHills and see Mt Rushmore, Devil’s Tower, and other sites but Rapid City’s fees, rental car and fuel prices made us look for an alternative. I called several airports but Rick made us a deal that was too good to pass up. Fuel prices were reasonable, he put us in a hangar ($35 per night), and rented us a car ($50 per day). It hailed our first night and he texted us to let us know the plane was safe. (3 inch hailstones) New FBOs are fine but people and service make a good FBO and Rick knows how to treat pilots and their planes. This is in the top 5 of outstanding FBOs I’ve seen across the country. It’s the kind of treatment that makes you want to come back.

Charming airport with one of the cleanest FBOs ever. Gotta love a place that even has signage to find the extra TP--appreciate that. The highlight was finding left over cinnamon rolls in the refrigerator that seemed up for grabs. Zapped one in the convenient microwave and OMG! Best cinnamon bun EVER! Suspected here in South Dakota it would be worth the calories and I was definitely correct! Left an honor system donation for this amazing treat. Thank you for the good stop! We'll be back.

Seeking a stopover on my route from Alaska to Texas. The turf runway at KHSR provided less strain on tundra tires compared to asphalt. Rick provided hangar accommodation and a vehicle to allow me to experience Wind Cave National Park while I awaited better weather. He additionally suggested a fine lodging, meals, and the finest frozen dessert I’ve tasted in a long duration. I wish I could have remained longer so I will certainly visit there again on my subsequent journey.
