Smiling Aviation (KAJZ)

Really nice new fueling facilities-both 100LL and JetA were working great when I was there on 15 April 2026.

The Smiling team did a good job inspecting a Skylane, I purchased and addressing a rather fine list of squawks before I flew it back out East. Highly recommend.

Good gas and wx briefing stop, with a slightly quirky 100LL pump. If you find it pumping more slowly than any automotive pump you've ever used, stop and wait--30 to 60 seconds. Listen to the pump priming itself, and when you hear to sound change, resume fueling. (I was told it's part of a leak detection system, to pump very slowly unless pressure has built up in the system.) Kind personnel, simple access to gas pumps.

The self-serve fuel pump needs about 45 seconds to come alive after you switch it on, and sometimes it takes longer. Just be patient-if you watch closely, you can see the hose pressurize once it's ready. Working the handle to start the flow won't help; waiting is the only trick. Still a much better price than Atlantic full serve in MTJ. Their self-serve setup has been RIP for months, and nobody seems to be holding their breath waiting for it to come back.
