Fuel is way too distant from the FBO.

Good airport, fine personnel! Courtesy car is not permitted to leave city limits, so arrange some transport if going more than a mile or two. Uber worked fine for me.

Good stop. Nice people, perfectly functional self serve, sparkling clean restrooms, good fuel costs! Thanks! The Ninja Turtle

Brand new management at this airport / FBO. Dan is the director now and wants to turn a new leaf over for 54J. They are getting ready to make huge investments including already redoing the self serve pumps. More to come - stay tuned!

No to 54J yes to79J Do not go here. User unfriendly. Was flying in and out with a car stationed there for a year or two They moved them on other end of runway without notifying us. Came in after hours and couldn’t find car. I removed my car after that. Then this year in January i left a car in main parking lot with permission from front desk. (Only car with around 10-20 parking spaces). They said it was ok. Due to extreme bad weather i was unable to get back for about a month. When I returned they had towed my XC90 by dragging it onto a flat bed truck. Couldn’t believe they did that without lifting car onto dolly wheels. Basically drug it in gear on the tires. The worst is I was never notified. The towing company charged me &25 a day that it was there. Fortunately it wasn’t there for a year. It cost me $375 to get car back. Total BS on airport manager. I never have yet to have been notified as of April 10, 2021. Bad, bad customer care. Or I should say. They simply didn’t care. I have topped off a lot with fuel there and you would think it was appreciated. Never again. I recommend 79J just north of 54J. Fuel is usually .75 to $1 cheaper and they are glad to see you. They don’t charge to leave a car either. They are not taking advantage of Florida going people. Extremely friendly and there is a car dealer across street you can rent a car from. Defuniak Springs is out until a major change in managements attitude toward customer car. If I had been 6 months it would have cost me $4500 to get my car. The manager apparently thought he was fair. He’s clueless about customer service. Besides half the time I was going in and out place is locked down like our Capital building. The terminal is locked and unless you know the gate code you are trapped on airport. Should be illegal with small airports. It’s not safe to be locked in. You would be screwed in an emergency until local police show up. Just go to 79J and skip the hassles while you save a bunch of money on fuel. Buddy (female & male) pilots. Have a wonderful day!!!!

Be warned the fuel farm is fairly unreliable. Shown up to it multiple times not operating without a NOTAM. They do NOT possess a full service truck either. Just land with sufficient gas to hop somewhere else if needed.

The new FBO structure here is wonderful. It is accessible 24/7 to air crew. The self serve is on the east side of the aerodrome, not situated with the FBO. This county clearly cares about its aerodrome and is attempting to expand it. Stop by and show them some support.

Fine and clean FBO. Accessible 24/7. They are constructing a new airport building. It’s going to be very good when finished.

When I visit the Florida panhandle, I fly into 54J. I enjoy this facility because it’s just far enough off the gulf coast that I don’t worry about the salt air harming my plane plus fuel is considerably cheaper than facilities on the water. I even keep a car on the facility grounds to travel to my 2nd home in Destin. During my last flight into 54J, my car battery was dead and I called the FBO for help. Luckily they answered, because it was 10 mins after the FBO was supposed to be closed. Kent came to our rescue! He tried to jump my car off and when that didn’t work he removed my battery, drove me to AutoZone for a new battery, then helped me install it and waited till we made sure it started. Kent went over and above to give us good customer service...even after hours. If you are coming to the Florida panhandle, I recommend DeFuniak Springs 54J.
