Reservations and prepayment needed, find links on the state park website. Phone the ranger stations at the entrances to the park before departure to check in by phone: 432-424-3427 or 432-229-3613. Primitive camping only - bring everything in and take everything out. Around a half mile walk to nearest campsite loop.

The asphalt strip is old but in rather good condition. There is a windsock at the north end. There is absolutely nothing happening here so if you don't have camping reservations or someone picking you up there's not anything to do but hike. I walked the length of the field to get my steps in and got some fine photos of the native plants.

Flew into the park for a couple days away from the world. Stopped in Alpine to top off tanks and call the Rangers to confirm I was flying in (who were exceptional before and during my stay). The park is absolutely lovely if isolated location. No mobile service or ATC coverage on the ground or in the air. Be very mindful of Density Altitude and familiarize yourself with mountain flying considerations. My Kitfox which has a very short take-off run required +1,000 feet of runway to take off and only climbed out at 200-300 ft/min. The park service Rangers no longer offer transport to the campsites so be prepared for a very difficult uphill hike if you are hauling water, food and gear. Definitely plan and prepare for BBRSP as it is not very forgiving. That said, the views on the ground and in the air are magnificent and the night sky is all Texas . . . Big & beautiful!
