Beautiful facility unfortunately surrounded with dead forests from the Tamarack fire (2021). Arriving from the West I opted for RW35 (upslope) with lots of turbulence on final. Beware of visual illusions. Rating the runway condition as a “B”. Some loose gravel but generally fine. Park your plane and walk across the runway to the east to the trail head down to the river. It’s is heartbreaking to see so many dead trees, however as you descend to the river you’ll find more vegetation, even shade. Pick-nick by the river and dip your toes before you make your way back up. About 2.5h total. RW35 departure seemed safer given the 5-10 kts direct headwind, despite the upslope. Right 270 to the West simple.
