I echo the other comments. This is a fantastic grassroots airport and the owner John Miller is an ambassador for aviation. I had the pleasure to meet John on my way to Sentimental Journey in Lock Haven, PA. I encourage anyone to check out C40 if you have a few moments to stretch your legs.

Wife and I flew into this airport on our trip home from SMD. In our C-150. It has a superb grass runway. We were met by the owner John Miller. We could not have wanted a more agreeable discussion about airport background and aviation generally. If you’re out for afternoon flight and seeking a fine place to land or on a cross country and require a nice quiet area to stretch your legs I strongly suggest stopping in. I concur with the former remark, just being welcomed by John and having a discussion with someone who has a true enthusiasm for aviation is worth the effort to stop.

This aerodrome features a well-kept grass strip. I flew in on a C172RG and experienced no problems on landing or takeoff. I did not notice any designated tiedown spots, but did not look too deeply either since conditions were not a worry that day. There are several hangar buildings there, but I did not ask about openings since I would only be there a couple hours. They do offer fuel for purchase, although I was not in requirement of any. The aerodrome has a modest main facility with a restroom and phone accessible, as well as some seating inside to escape the weather if a tired pilot requires some refuge. It’s about a 10- to 15-minute drive into Bluffton from the aerodrome. I had a friend meet me at the aerodrome in their car so we could go into town for an engagement. I had the fine privilege of meeting the proprietor John Miller while I was in town for the afternoon, and he showed me the kit plane he has been constructing, which he expects to complete later this summer. That was a genuine pleasure and I hope to return sometime so he can show me the completed item! The aerodrome has been owned by his family for over 75 years, if I remember right. John clearly has a true ardor for aviation and his welcome was top-notch. The aerodrome may have restricted physical facilities, but if you’re in the vicinity with some time free, it could be worth the stop just to visit with John.
