Not sure where Elliot M got his info but actually Skaneateles Lake is widely recognized as one of the cleanest lakes in the country and is the unfiltered water source for syracuse. Perhaps he's thinking of Onondaga Lake which has been the focus of a decade-long clean up effort 20 miles to the northeast and not in the Skaneateles watershed.
