Katama Airpark (1B2)

Runway is in really nice shape. 3 clicks gets winds, 4 gets Wx on 122.85. Lots of tie downs along the North side. Mike maintains all 3 runways, taxiways, and parking using what looks like a 60" zero-turn mower! Once he gets done, he probably has to turn around and begin again. The seasonal restaurant is reasonably priced and gives fly-in guests 20% off food. Fuel is seasonal too, since he only takes a load when MVY sends over a truck. Beach parking is excellent. No tie downs over there though, so bring stakes if it might be windy.

Bus rides are now free across the island. The number 8 route goes past the airport, stopping at the airport entrance, then continues along South Beach. Stops are located at both ends of South Beach, and you can flag the bus down elsewhere along the way. Getting into Edgartown from 1B2, or after spending time at the beach, is easy and currently costs nothing if you want to check out what the island has to offer. Connecting buses from Edgartown also run to other island towns and destinations.

This was my fourth visit to Katama, and somehow it gets better every time. The ground crew were incredibly friendly and helpful, and really made us feel welcome. The runways were in excellent condition. Digital check-in was super simple, with no landing or parking fees (summer 2026). We offered a tip but they wouldn't take it - so we'll make a donation instead to help keep the Katama spirit going. Can't think of a better day trip than this.
